Read this before you install.

New in 0.1.2: Fixes a startup crash in the previous installer caused by a conflicting Windows runtime file. Install this update over the previous version, then open FreePCVPN from the Start menu.

FreePCVPN 0.1.2 is an unsigned early preview. We do not yet have a code-signing certificate for the FreePCVPN app or installer. Windows application control blocked the development build on our test PC, so native app operation, end-to-end VPN connections, traffic routing, and leak behavior have not been validated there. It is not a production-ready privacy product.

Keep Windows security protections enabled. If Windows or your organization blocks this build, stop and wait for a signed, validated release or contact your administrator.

Native desktop interface targeting Windows 10 and 11 on x64 PCs. Compatibility testing across Windows versions and devices remains pending.

OpenVPN foundation

The installer downloads the official signed OpenVPN Community prerequisite from swupdate.openvpn.org. Internet access and administrator rights are required.

Managed access

Activate with a code supplied by your administrator. Choose from their available locations and authorized account capacity. No public self-service signup.

Still outside this release

WireGuard, a firewall kill switch, split tunneling, automatic startup, independent security auditing, and a signed FreePCVPN installer are not included.

Closing the app disconnects the tunnel. Traffic may use your normal network when the VPN is disconnected or interrupted. Account rejection stops automatic retry for administrator review.

The tunnel IP shown by the app is an internal VPN address. It is not a public-IP verification or a leak test.

The SHA-256 file lets you compare the installer against the file published here. A matching checksum confirms file consistency; it does not replace code signing, an independent audit, or runtime testing. The signed OpenVPN prerequisite does not make the FreePCVPN application signed.

Before your first connection.

How do I activate the app?

Get an activation code from your FreePCVPN administrator. Open the app and enter it on the Connection screen. Downloading the installer does not automatically grant access to VPN accounts or locations.

What does setup install?

Setup installs FreePCVPN and obtains the official OpenVPN Community 2.7.7 engine from swupdate.openvpn.org. It requires internet access and administrator rights. The FreePCVPN app and installer are unsigned.

Why does the app say to install in Program Files?

Close the app copy you opened. Download and run FreePCVPN Setup, finish installation, then launch FreePCVPN from the Windows Start menu. A copied EXE in Downloads or a development folder cannot start the connection helper. If you already installed it, use the Start menu shortcut rather than the old copy. Setup upgrades preserve activation for the same Windows user.

What if Windows blocks this preview?

Leave Windows security protections in place. Do not bypass application-control policy. Contact your administrator or wait for a signed, validated release.

Is the homepage preview a real connection?

No. It is an illustrative website concept. Its sample countries are not a list of available servers, and its controls do not route or protect your traffic.
